Abbazia di Sant'Antimo - Abbey of St. Antimo - Abbaye de Saint-Antimo

L'abbazia di Sant'Antimo è un complesso monastico premostratense situato presso Castelnuovo dell'Abate, all'interno del comune di Montalcino, in provincia di Siena. Si tratta di una delle architetture più importanti del romanico toscano.
L'abbazia pare essere intitolata a due santi: Sant'Antimo presbitero e Sant'Antimo diacono:

Il primo è citato negli acta Sancti Anthimi dove è narrata la storia, quasi leggendaria, del sacerdote Antimo imprigionato sotto gli imperatori Diocleziano e Massimiano. Egli guarì e convertì al cristianesimo Pinianus, marito di Licinia, nipote dell'imperatore Gallieno. Pinianus, convertito, si adoperò per salvare i cristiani dalle persecuzioni. Nascosto nella villa di Pinianus lungo la via Salaria, Antimo convertì anche un sacerdote del dio Silvano e l'intera famiglia. Colpevole di aver infranto il simulacro di quella divinità, Antimo venne gettato nel fiume Tevere con una pietra legata al collo, ma ne uscì incolume. Venne quindi fatto decapitare nel 304 dal console Prisco e venne sepolto nell'oratorio nel quale era solito pregare. Le sue reliquie sono venerate fin dal 1658 nella chiesa di Sant'Antimo presso Napoli. Secondo una leggenda papa Adriano I, nel 781, avrebbe consegnato parte delle reliquie dei santi Antimo e Sebastiano a Carlo Magno, che le donò all'abbazia nell'atto della fondazione.

 L'altro sant'Antimo a cui far risalire il nome dell'abbazia era un diacono aretino, martirizzato insieme a san Donato nel 352. La Passio Donati narra la storia del miracolo di san Donato. Secondo la leggenda il vescovo aretino stava celebrando una funzione di ordinazione insieme ai diaconi Antimo e Asterio. Mentre Antimo distribuiva l'eucarestia con un calice di vetro, nel tempio entrarono alcuni pagani che, con violenza, gettarono a terra il calice, mandandolo in frantumi. Donato raccolse e riunì i frammenti, ma si accorse che mancava un pezzo di vetro nel fondo del calice. Incurante del problema, continuò a servire il vino senza che neanche una goccia uscisse dal calice. Questo provocò lo stupore dei pagani, che si convertirono. Seguirono l'arresto di san Donato, la sua uccisione assieme ad altri cristiani, la distruzione dei libri e degli arredi liturgici, come spesso avveniva nella persecuzione di Giuliano[1]. Antimo, unico dei compagni martirizzati insieme a Donato, non venne sepolto a Pionta, nell'aretino, ma altrove. Si ritiene che Antimo, per sfuggire alla persecuzione, si fosse rifugiato nella val di Starcia e qui sia stato martirizzato e sepolto.

L'abbazzia è arrivata  ai giorni nostri vivendo diversi periodi nella sua pluricentenaria storia.
A cominciare dalla sua nascita che sembra risalga al 352 sul luogo del martirio di Sant'Antimo d'Arezzo , al suo ampliamento avvenuto intorno al  1120 grazie ad una donazione del Conte Bernardo degli Ardengheschi, passando per il suo cosidetto "periodo dorato" , in cui viene assogettata da Siena con l'appoggio di papa Clemente III, arrivando al suo declino e soppressione avvenuta per mano di papa PIO II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini).
La struttura è rimasta in uno stato di abbandono fino al 1870 quando le Belle Arti cominciano a farle un restauro che la porterà all'incirca allo stato attuale.
Nel 1970 Franco Zeffirelli vi gira il film : Fratello sole , sorella luna.
Nel 1992 dopo vari anni di ulteriori restauri vi è il ritorno dopo oltre 5 secoli dei monaci, in cui vi abitano tutt'ora dedicandosi a varie opere pastorali.
I monaci di Sant'Antimo hanno registrato ultimamente dei cd di canti gregoriani per accompagnare le varie liturgie.

The Abbey of St. Antimo is a Premostratense monastic complex located at Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the town of Montalcino, in the province of Siena. It is one of the most important of the Tuscan Romanesque architecture.

The abbey seems to be dedicated to two saints: Saint Antimo presbyter and St. Antimo deacon :

The first is mentioned in the Acta Sancti Anthime where the story is told , almost legendary , the priest Antimo imprisoned under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. He healed, and converted to Christianity Pinianus , Licinian husband , nephew of the Emperor Gallienus . Pinianus converted, worked to save the Christians from persecution. Hidden in the villa of Pinianus along the Via Salaria , Antimo also converted a priest of the god Silvanus, and the whole family . Guilty of breaking the statue of the deity , Antimo was thrown into the Tiber river with a stone tied around his neck, but he emerged unscathed . He was then beheaded in the year 304 by the consul Prisco and was buried in the oratory where he used to pray. His relics are venerated since 1658 in the church of Sant 'Antimo , near Naples . According to a legend  Pope Hadrian I in 781 , he delivered part of the relics of the saints Antimo and Sebastian to Charlemagne, who gave her the abbey in the act of foundation.

 The other Sant 'Antimo, in which to trace the name of the abbey was a deacon of Arezzo , who was martyred along with St. Donato in 352 . The Passio Donati tells the story of the miracle of San Donato . According to legend, the bishop of Arezzo was celebrating an ordering function along with the deacons Antimo and Asterius . They followed the arrest of San Donato , killing him along with other Christians , the destruction of books and liturgical furnishings , as often happened in the persecution of Julian [1] . Antimo , one of the companions who were martyred along with Donato , was not buried in Pionta , nell'aretino , but elsewhere . It is believed that Antimo , to escape persecution , had taken refuge in the valley Starcia and here was martyred and buried.

The abbey has arrived to our days living in different periods in its centuries-old history. Starting with his birth that seems to date back to 352 on the site of the martyrdom of Saint Antimo D'Arezzo , its enlargement occurred around 1120 thanks to a donation of Count Bernardo Ardengheschi , through its so-called " golden period " , in which is assogettata from Siena with the support of Pope Clement III , reaching its decline and suppression at the hands of Pope Pius II ( Enea Silvio Piccolomini ) .
THE structure has remained in a state of disrepair until 1870 when the Fine Arts beginning to make her a restoration that will bring about the current state.

Sans se soucier du problème , il a continué à servir le vin sans qui  même une goutte est sorti de la coupe . Cela a provoqué l'étonnement des pagans qui ont été convertis . Ils ont suivi l'arrestation de San Donato , le tuant ainsi que d'autres chrétiens , la destruction des livres et des objets liturgiques , comme cela arrivait souvent à la persécution de Julien [ 1 ] . Antimo , l'un des compagnons qui ont été martyrisés avec Donato , n'a pas été enterré dans Pionta , nell'aretino , mais ailleurs . On croit que Antimo , pour échapper à la persécution , s'était réfugié dans la vallée Starcia et ici a été martyrisé et enterré.

L'abbaye est arrivé à nos jours, vivant dans différentes périodes de son histoire séculaire . A partir de sa naissance qui semble remonter à 352 sur le site du martyre de Saint Antimo D' Arezzo , son élargissement a eu lieu autour de 1120 grâce à une donation du conte Bernardo Ardengheschi , par son soi-disant " période d'or " , en qui est assogettata de Sienne avec le soutien du pape Clément III , pour atteindre son déclin et la suppression de la part du pape Pie II ( Enea Silvio Piccolomini ) .
La structure est restée dans un état de délabrement jusqu'en 1870 lorsque les Beaux-Arts commence à lui faire une restauration qui apportera de l'état actuel .

En 1992 , après plusieurs années de restauration , il ya plus de 5 siècles après le retour des moines , qui y vivent encore se consacrer à diverses œuvres pastorales . Les moines de Saint-Antimo, enregistrés ces derniers temps des CD de chants grégoriens à accompagner les diverses liturgies.
